Honeybear
I first noticed Honeybear while driving my kids to school every morning. At the same intersection, day after day, we’d see this impossibly thin little cat nestled beneath a bush in front of a house on Main Street. She became part of our daily routine — a silent, heartbreaking figure we couldn’t help but look for. Over time, we watched her world unfold. One morning she was curled protectively around a litter of tiny kittens, tending to them like only a loving mama could. But as the weeks passed and the air grew colder, the kittens disappeared. We finally stopped by and the homeowner told us they’d been taken away — but Honeybear was left behind. The homeowner admitted that she couldn't take Honeybear in; she already had three house cats of her own and she wasn't going to be able to give her food any longer. Then came one bitter November morning. We saw her again, huddled in the bushes, eyes half-closed, as if she’d finally given up. That was the moment we couldn’t look away anymore. That night, we scooped her up and took her to the vet — and from that moment on, she’s been ours. Honeybear has filled our home with even more warmth and light. She’s our little miracle, a daily reminder of resilience, love, and the simple power of being seen and loved. Thanks to my tech savvy kids, we have documented much of Honeybear's journey on Instagram. Follow her at sugarandhoneybear.
Gracie Mae
When we first met Gracie (back then she went by “Squeaker”), she was sitting regally on a big cushion, gazing out the window like a queen waiting for her carriage. When she spotted us, she turned her head ever so slowly… and let out a massive hiss! Our sweet girl had been left all alone after her owner went into long-term care, and no one from her human family could take her. So, naturally, we swept her up and brought her home — hisses and all. It took a little time (and a few bribes) to win her over, but once we did, we discovered the sweetest, most affectionate little soul hiding under all that sass and snarl. Three years later, she rules the house and our hearts. We honestly can’t imagine life without her! Sweet Gracie Mae 💕🐾
Daisy
I didn’t go looking for Daisy—she found me. In the pouring rain, I saw this soaked, shivering puppy sitting outside the grocery store. I offered her my umbrella, and she wagged her tail like I’d just given her the world. After no one claimed her, I took her home “just for the night.” That was three years ago. Now Daisy is my shadow. She sits beside me while I work, follows me on hikes, and somehow knows when I’m having a bad day before I do. She’ll rest her head on my knee and look up with those big brown eyes that say, “I’m here.” She rescued me just as much as I rescued her. I can’t imagine my life without her muddy paws, snoring, and unconditional love.
Laney
Every morning at exactly 6:27, my cat Laney wakes me up. No exceptions. First, she gently pats my face with her paw. If that doesn’t work, she escalates to a soft meow in my ear. And if I still don’t move—well, let’s just say my hair becomes her jungle gym. Some might find that annoying, but I secretly love it. Laney keeps me on schedule, but more than that, she fills my house with life. When I come home from work, she’s waiting at the window. When I sit down to read, she curls up beside me like she’s been saving that spot all day. She’s more than a pet—she’s my best friend, my morning companion, and the heartbeat of my home.
